I've been waiting for this for a long time - Google Voice Offers Voicemail Without a New Number
Want in on Google Voice's web-based, transcribed, custom-greeted voicemail, but you're not quite ready to adopt a new number? Starting tonight, Voice users can choose to keep their number and still get Google's upgraded voicemail features.
You'll still need a Google Voice invitation to get started, which you can request for yourself or beg a friend for. Once you're in, you can choose to either pick up a new number for the full Voice service—voicemail, SMS, selective call forwarding, and more—or keep your number and walk through Google's forwarding setup for your cellphone, in what the search giant is branding as "Google Voicemail."
Your voicemail will be routed to Google's servers, transcribed and sent to you by SMS or email, if you'd like, and accessible from your Voice web page (or playable in Gmail). It's a similar offering to what services like YouMail have been offering for some time for phones of all kinds, but with seemingly unlimited transcription and storage space. You'll also be able to set up custom greetings for each caller to your voicemail.
Google touts those features, and their concept of helping you keep your voicemail consistent between carriers, in this just-released video:
Does voicemail alone and the promise of being able to keep your number tempt you toward Google Voice—if you're able to track down an invite? Tell us what you think of Google's new pitch for your phone traffic in the comments.

First things you do when you hear news contrary to what you were believing/hoping for:
A friend sent this to me and I thought it was worth sharing with all. Enjoy.
First things you do when you hear news contrary to what you were believing/hoping for:
1) PRAISE God for his goodness:
-Romans 8:28 "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according tohis purpose."
-Phil. 2:13 "for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his GOOD purpose."
-Ps. 34:8 "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him."
2) PRAISE God for his faithfulness:
-Deut. 7:9 "Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keeps his commands."
-Deut. 32:4 "He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he."
-Psalm 89:8 "O Lord God Almight, who is like you? You are mighty, O Lord, and your faithfulness surrounds you."
3) Declare and believe that he has something better. That he knows more than you do!:
-Isaiah 66:1-2 "This is what the Lord says: 'Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will be my resting place? Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?' Declares the Lord."
- Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
-Prov. 3:5-8 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."
4)Pray and seek God's heart for the situation. Ask him to search you and see if anything needs to be addressed within you.
-Ps. 139:23-24 "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
5) Fight the lie that says, "If only I had done this, then..." God responds to FAITH so ask him to give you greater faith!
-Matt. 9:22 "Take heart, daughter," he sad, "you faith has healed you."
-Matt. 9:29 "Then he touched their eyes and said, According to your faith will it be done to you;' and their sight wsa restored."
-Matt. 15:28 "The Jesus answered, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted."
-Matt. 21:21 'Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, no only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
-ALL of Hebrews 11! :)

At $6.5 Billion, Facebook is Now Worth More than CBS

Ok, let's try this for the pictures
A little weekend project. I think it turned out really well!
Here's the before:
And After:
All in all we're really happy with how it turned out. There was quite an electrical mess (exposed 220 wire) as well so re probably averted some kind of fire or explosion.

HD Handheld Cameras - My experience with Flip Mino vs. Creative Vado
I initially saw some small HD camcorders a few months ago, and after researching, I was still undecided between the Flip Mino HD and the Creative Vado HD.
Mino:
Vado:
Looking at the features of each, you definitely see some differences, but as far as video quality, most of the reviews said the Mino was a little better.
Well, the initial choice for me came down to availability. I forgot our traditional video camera when we left for our vacation, so we decided to stop at Best Buy to pick up a video camera since we were already planning on getting one. Guess what? We got the very last Flip Mino HD.
I started using it and absolutely loved it. It takes great quality videos in usable format and it's incredibly easy to carry in your pocket, pull it out, and shoot some video on the fly. Then, just plug it in to your computer and download the videos, upload to youtube, whatever. It's quick and simple.
We used the camera for 2 vacations.
You may be able to guess where this is going.
After the 2nd vacation, I had it plugged in to my computer to charge it. I left it there charging and a few minutes later my baby girl comes running in and instead of the lovely picture above, it looks something like:
Yes. Sad day in the Hoppe house. Anyway, I know it's my fault for leaving it there and my 2 year old is not to blame. I even thought of the possibility of that happening before I left the room but never thought better of it. I could still take videos, but I couldn't charge it or get the videos off, so there wasn't much we could do there. This is what I call "stupid tax".
So we decided this time to order the Vado. I was able to order it off amazon for almost $100 cheaper than I bought the Flip for at the store. Check.
I got the Vado overnighted, and it arrived right before we left for our July 4th trip. Can I just say that everything about this camera is better. Not only do I notice no difference in the video quality, it has almost every feature that was lacking in the Mino:
* Rubberized plastic case - check (flip is glossy plastic that scratches easily)
* MUCH larger screen
* HDMI out (rather than just a 1/8" video out)
* Removable battery
* TWICE the storage space (holds over 2 hours as opposed to 1 hour)
* And here's the kicker: a FLEXIBLE connection that won't collapse like a wet noodle under pressure
* It also comes with a usb extender cable - extra protection against bricking the unit
* AND a silicone case to protect it
Can you tell which one I like more? Yes, I am a little bitter at the Flip but I think all in all the Vado has many more features and at a better price.
note: I do have a support ticket in with Flip to see if they'll do anything for me on the broken connection.
